'I don't mean to be funny, but ...'
Why do people invariably start a sentence this way, when they have no intention of being amusing at all ?

This blog was originally to keep in touch with people in the UK whilst I headed for New Zealand for a year to work with horses in 2003. It's now to keep in touch with the people I met in NZ whilst I work out how to get back there.
