Arrived in Paihia c.1400 yesterday. Did the shops, ate chips, found this campsite @ $14 per night. set up tent, VERY proud of myself, tried out bed & sleeping bag, not bad.

After a reviving hot shower in the spotless shower block, I made my way to the hotel bar, ordered an Export Gold & felt tremendously growed-up reading the Sundays cover to cover.

I went to bed at 2130, slightly squiffy after not bothering with dinner.
Slept well, inside 2 sleeping bags, traffic started early. Awoken @ 0530 by a duck trying to gain entry to the tent.

Ate breakfast in the hotel dining room. Was asked the most stupid question ever. $13, cooked or continental ? (same price).

Spoke with Stan at length twice. His 2nd call finished with him saying he had spoken to Mummeh. At the end of their call she told him to 'Sod off', he replied in kind. 'Kisses - all 4 cheeks'.

Bloo arrives in Paihia later today, a day behind my journey.

My funniest memory of today was Adidas-woman at the bar this evening.
She wore an Adidas shell-suit, accessorised with silver nail-polish, silver shoes (eat your heart out Cocky), silver bracelets & long, sparkly diamante earrings.

Middle aged women, please note ; Either tracksuits or jewellery. Never both.

I love Paihia, extremely lovely, despite being grey.
